Estimating the seismic pounding force between adjacent buildings and study the effect of gap distance on seismic pounding

چکیده
Insufficient separation distance between adjacent buildings may lead to their pounding during strong earthquakes causing damage or local failure. Accordingly, most of the design codes specify a minimum gap prevent seismic pounding. Main objectives this research are studying reinforced concrete (RC) under various ground motions and effect on The studied modeled as three-dimensional frames idealize buildings. This study considers frame having same number floors well different floors. Nonlinear finite element time history analysis is performed using ETABS commercial software. Three real earthquake records with characteristics scaled used simulate motion. model at interface points. results indicate that, maximum force was investigated for each cases. Pounding does not occur equal height. Increasing reduces them. Separation distance, which estimated by Egyptian code, conservative.

Separation between Adjacent Nonlinear Structures for Prevention of Seismic Pounding
Four existing methods to calculate critical separation distances between adjacent nonlinear hysteretic structures are evaluated through Monte-Carlo simulations, for which seismic excitation is characterized as a nonstationary random process. All the methods use the well-known Double Difference Combination rule, but follow different approaches to calculate the correlation coefficient ρ. Results ...
متن کاملEffect of Seismic Pounding on Adjacent Blocks of Unsymmetrical Buildings Considering Soil-Structure Interaction
During earthquake buildings which are closely spaced vibrate out of phase if there is insufficient distance between two adjacent building to accommodate maximum lateral displacement, they collide with each other this phenomenon is called as pounding. Pounding leads to verse damages to structure as the responses are drastically increased in terms of base shear, absolute acceleration, impact forc...

متن کاملEarthquake Pounding Effect on Adjacent Reinforced Concrete Buildings
During earthquakes, pounding of adjacent buildings occurs due to their different dynamic characteristics as well as insufficient separation distance between them. Although earthquake loading is commonly considered in structural design, pounding of adjacent buildings is not usually considered and usually causes highly unexpected damages and failures. Pounding effect was numerically investigated ...
متن کاملInfluence of Seismic Pounding on RC Buildings with and without Base Isolation System Subject to Near-Fault Ground Motions
Building pounding occurs between two adjacent buildings with small gap or without sufficient separation distance. It leads to damage buildings during earthquake due to impact. Many researchers have investigated building pounding based on impact force reduction and energy dissipation increase, when two buildings collide with each other. In numerical investigations, using specific link element, i...
